Crafting, artwork, and even writing has long been like a deep lost gem in my soul. Each takes time, intentionality, seeking, quiet. Honestly, it’s like walking a winding descending tunnel to a far down crevice where you’re certain something precious waits to be uncovered. Sadly, the journey often seems too much of a commitment and is abandoned at the thought. However, I know when I do choose to venture it proves restorative and always returns beyond the cost. Find here some thoughts and findings on my time tunneling over the past few days.
My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less
God reminded me the other day of this hymn and then gave me an image of a golden mountain. Thinking of way to blend the two, I carefully unbounded an old hymn book and then gold leafed a peak atop the song’s age-old lyrics and stanzas. I pray perhaps my venturing’s gem is timely for someone in need of firm footing, security, or hope. If anything, it has been my anchor in our present high and stormy gales (strong winds…I admit I had to look up what a gale is).
“Behold! A new thing I bring forth. A new expression of worship. A new gift to fan into flame. To bring light, warmth, glimmers of hope that may soon blaze into roaring faith.”
A word from God he spoke over this art piece
Wholly Leaning
My hope is built on nothing less
Words by Edward Mote (1834). Music by William B. Bradbury (1863).
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the solid Rock I stand
All other ground is sinking sand
All other ground is sinking sand
Wholly lean. Of all the times I’ve heard or sung this hymn, I’ve overlooked what this is actually suggesting. Perhaps the name of this blog, Wholly Home, or just the constant repeating revelation of the word, it now bangs the gong louder and clearer every time I hear it. Wholly is everything. Leaning everything is free fall. Free falling into the arms of Jesus will always bring the soul a secure landing.
Spelunking is the exploration of caves. It harkens adventure, demands courage, and builds anticipation to uncover something or someplace that may have been considered inexistent. Your soul and heart has a unique geography (much more on this soon!), crafted and known by the Creator. Beautiful treasures await to be discovered, but will you lean free falling into the One who can guide you there?
